Well, we've been AWOL.

We here at The Orange Fibre Company have been off the map for a long time. Too long, really. And there's no excuse, except for life getting in the way and fair wages being impossible to make when spinning our own yarn. So you know what we're up to instead? Making cool stuff to make your knitting life easier. Right now, we're working on the very best knitting app ever. Our goal is to make one app that has EVERYTHING you need - counters, pattern library, needle catalog, stash lists, etc.

Aside from those very, very important things, what would all of YOU like to see in the world's most complete and awesome mobile knitting app? Comment and tell us - we're dying to know!

Introducing: All Ten Toes!

We're happy to announce the launch of our first yarn, All Ten Toes! It's a fantastic single-ply sock yarn handspun from really soft 100% merino wool, in both solid and self-striping colorways.
It's all in the details
All Ten Toes is full of those delightful details that make it that much more fun and easy to knit. Each 100 gram skein contains 80 grams of the main yarn, thoughtfully divided into two hanks for even sock knitting, either one sock at a time or both at once, and an additional 20 grams of a hard-wearing all-merino heel yarn.
Don't you just hate it when you have to break up the lovely patterning in a sock for a heel? It's just my luck that the best part of the pattern usually all pools on the heel, too. With All Ten Toes, that's ancient history. In the striped colorways, the heel yarn is made of tiny stripes of the same colors, and is you don't have to interrupt the great thing you've got going on with the foot, no matter how far into a stripe you might be.

Fibre dyed, big stripes
The striped colorways are spun from pre-dyed fibre, so the stripes are of slightly different widths all through the sock. We love this about All Ten Toes, but if you don't, you're perefectly free to purchase two solids and do all the hard work yourself. We just figured we'd make it easier on you. In addition, the joins between two colors of fibre are as short as possible, so you don't have any long bits of weird blended fibre to look at on your sock.

Whoopeedoo!

Welcome to The Orange Fibre Company!
We're a small (two-person) family-run handspun yarn brand based in the Netherlands, consisting of a free-spirited American expat who designs and spins, and the down-to-Earth Dutch guy who does the businessy stuff. Our firm belief is that handspun yarn should not just be beautiful to touch and look at, but beautiful to knit as well. You won't see bizarre thick-thin 'art' yarns here, or any strange one-skein wonders with too many kinds of fibres blended together. Nor will you find 'handpainted' (code for a weird muddle of too many colors that really only look nice on the skein) anything. We produce beautiful, knittable, wearable yarns from the finest quality fibres, all in a pet- and smoke-free environment.

What do you mean by 'wearable?'
We're talking yarn you'll love forever. Stuff that really looks and feels nice against your skin, and will stand the test of time and changing fashions. Stuff you'll want to pass down to your kids (or at least stuff your kids will beg you to leave to them - but you'll probably want to be buried in it instead. Who says you can't take it with you?). Nothing trendy, funky, or 'cute' here. Classic yarn that you can knit anything with and you won't regret it in the morning. Yeah, you there - you know exactly what I'm talking about.

So where can I buy this wondrous yarn?
We're currently setting up our Etsy shop and talking to some local and online stores. In the meantime, you can always email us to place an order.

Do you make patterns as well?
We're working on it. First things first, though - we want to be sure that we've got enough yarn for you to knit with when our patterns take the world by storm. And if you're a designer looking for new challenges, we'd love to hear from you.

That's about all I've got to say. Check back frequently for product updates - we're always developing new stuff, and we always welcome your opinions about it!
